The Congo river allows the Tiger Fish Goliath, to reach weight up to 70 kg or more (estimate by Raymond & Daniel Neuville) who have brought the Tiger Fish to the boat, before the steel wire ropes would be cut by the sharp-edged and powerful teeth. Only at Congo river, one can find this fish with such size and weight. The biggest specimen captured until now, at the TIGER FISHCAMP was 56 kg.
The frightening jaw generally comprises 32 quite visible teeth, located extremely ahead on the jaw: 14 teeth on the lower jaw and 18 teeth on the upper jaw. They are very sharp on the edges and produce clear sections, they are comparable with razor blades! By touching them slightly, you would be cut! With open or closed mouth, the 18 teeth are always visible, this is what gives the Tiger Fish such diabolic aspect.
Like the shark, it has teeth of replacement. Those are located behind functional teeth, in the thickness of the jaw, in the cavities. When a tooth brake during a violent attack , a tooth of replacement being located exactly at the opposite of its jaw, swivels to take it’s place.
